Certification--Level Two: Advanced Topics

Level Two in the Certificate in
Copyright Management and Leadership



Level Two Certification is for those individuals who have successfully completed Level One Certification. Whereas the Level One Certification provides an opportunity to study copyright issues more generally through the Foundations Course and to take a focused topical workshop elective, Level Two Certification offers advanced elective courses focusing on specific topics from which registrants may choose.  Each advanced elective course is four (4) weeks.  Individuals who successfully complete three (3) advanced elective courses are awarded Level Two Certification.

Current course offerings include:

Deciding to Digitize: Legal, Ethical, and Copyright Considerations (Advanced Topic Short Course, 4 weeks)*
  • Dates: February 14 - March 11, 2011 (Register by February 4)
  • Instructor: Peggy Hoon, J.D.
  • Description: Living in a digitally dominated world raises numerous critical and important questions, particularly for copyright holders and for those who face the decisions of what, when, and how to digitize. This course, which assumes a working knowledge of copyright basics, will address the legal and ethical issues and copyright considerations underpinning the formation of a responsible and balanced digitization practice, policy, procedure or workflow. Advanced Licensing Issues (Advanced Topic Short Course, 4 weeks)*
  • Dates: July 11 - August 5, 2011 (Register by July 1)
  • Instructor: Trisha Davis, M.L.I.S.
  • Description: Join educator Trisha Davis as she shares her knowledge and experience with licensing of electronic resources and copyright issues, developed both inside and outside of university classrooms and libraries. This advanced course assumes a foundational knowledge of basic licensing law and terms as well as the management of licenses. It also seeks both to address more complex rights issues as well as to introduce new standards and best practices for those who already have some experience in the field of licensing. Learn more.
Copyright, Photos, Video, Art & Multimedia (Advanced Topic Short Course, 4 weeks)*
  • Dates: October 3-28, 2011 (Register by September 23)
  • Instructor: Arnold Lutzker, J.D.
  • Description: In a world dominated by rich visual imagery, it is easy to be confused and to have questions about how one can use and reuse photos, video, artistic works, and other multimedia in the digital environment. Registrants in Level Two Certification may register for these advanced topic courses on an ala carte basis, but Level Two Certification will only be granted to registrants who have successfully completed Level One.

  2. Sign up for all three advanced topic courses when you register for Certification Level Two and save on the per-course fee. And when you pay online, you may take advantage of the option to pay in monthly installments.


Interested in these courses but not in Certification?

Advanced topic courses may also be taken apart from the Certificate program, either singly or multiple, but participants will not receive Certification.  Please see the educational program listing for more details and to register.
