Peggy E. Hoon

For the past twelve years, Peggy E. Hoon served as North Carolina State University's Scholarly Communication Librarian and Special Assistant to the Provost for Copyright Administration. As the nation's first campus-based Scholarly Communication Librarian, she provided guidance and resources to the library staff and campus community on scholarly communication, copyright, fair use, licensing, open access and user privacy issues. She also served as the primary resource for questions concerning copyright ownership issues and use of materials in teaching and research. In her efforts to raise copyright awareness, she has given hundreds of presentations, training sessions, and individual consultations, locally and across the country. Her web resource efforts included development of several copyright informational sites as well as the TEACH Act Toolkit and ARL's Know Your Copy Rights site and brochure. For her efforts in advancing fair use, she was the 2008 recipient of ALA's L. Ray Patterson Award Copyright Award. In addition to a JD degree from the University of Washington, Ms. Hoon holds a BS in Nursing from the University of Colorado.

Olga Francois
Assistant Director
UMUC Center for Intellectual Property

Olga Francois is the Assistant Director of the Center for Intellectual Property, where, collaboratively, she writes instructional tools and delivers professional development programming. In addition to her role at the Center, she teaches research methods courses for the School of Undergraduate Studies and the Graduate School of Management and Technology at University of Maryland University College. Ms. Francois received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Smith College, and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught Information Competency curriculum, research methods, and course-related Library Instruction at John Jay College, Borough of Manhattan Community College (City University of New York), and Pierce College in Washington State. Ms. Francois has given conference presentations, and her most recent publications include chapters in The Center for Intellectual Property Handbook ("Copyright Education Programs") and Information Literacy Assessment: Standards-Based Tools and Assignments ("Information, Social Context, and Ethical and Legal Issues").

Kimberly Bonner
Executive Director
UMUC Center for Intellectual Property

Kimberly Bonner is the Executive Director of the Center for Intellectual Property at the University of Maryland University College. She coordinates the Center's activities, which include education, research and resource development on the impact of intellectual property issues in higher education. Ms. Bonner also writes grants for the Center to support its initiatives. In addition to directing the Center's initiatives, Ms. Bonner has taught copyright and communications law courses at both the Undergraduate and Graduate School for UMUC. Recent papers include “Intellectual Property, Ownership and Digital Course Materials: A Survey of Intellectual Property Policies at Two- and Four-Year Colleges and Universities” (portal: Libraries and the Academy, 2 (2), 255-266), and Academic Dishonesty: Faculty and Administrator Responses and Perceptions of the Impact of Digital Text and Distance Education. Ms. Bonner has previously been an invited presenter at several higher education policy conferences including Educause and the Higher Education Law and Policy Institute. Prior to joining UMUC, Ms. Bonner was a law clerk for Chief United States District Court Judge W. Louis Sands in the Middle District of Georgia for two years. After her clerkship, Ms. Bonner joined the law firm of Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White, LLP in Washington, DC. At Howrey, she specialized in trade secret, trademark and Year 2000 insurance coverage litigation. Ms. Bonner received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1993 in Foreign Affairs and her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia in 1996. While at the Law School, she served on the editorial board and was a book review editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law.

Available services include:
  • Presentation (1 hour or less)
    • $500 for one hour ($400 for institutional members)
  • Training (half day or full day)
    • $1000 for a full day ($800 for institutional members)
  • Package A
    • $1200 Package ($960 for institutional members)
Package includes three (3) one-hour presentations. Those wishing to select the package are highly encouraged to schedule the three presentation/training sessions over the course of two semesters or an entire year, as this provides opportunities for participants to do follow up, investigative work and possible implementation prior to site visits by the instructors.
Expenses &
Arrangements
Institutions are responsible to pay for travel and hotel for instructors.
Arrangements must be made with instructors on an individual basis.
