How to Make the Perfect S’more The s’more is a camping tradition; a weekend in the woods just wouldn’t be the same without them. Sitting and cracking jokes around the campfire is so much more enjoyable when a person can roast a marshmallow in the flames. A s’more is the perfect blend a chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers blended together. Making this s’more is simple; a person just has to know what they like. Some people prefer their marshmallow lightly toasted, while others like theirs burnt to a crisp; there is no right or wrong when it comes to roasting a marshmallow.

Some people might like double crackers, or some people may just want one. Someone with a sweet tooth may want more chocolate than others. There are a variety of ways to make this toasted treat, a person just needs to figure out what they like. No matter the preference, a s’more is still going to be a s’more with a little modification. To make the traditional s’more, (one without modifications or tweaks) a person has to have the right tools. Start off by purchasing a bag of marshmallows; normal size, not the minis or jumbo’s.

Also, the buyer needs to purchase milk chocolate bars, preferably Hershey’s, the snack size, king size, or regular size will all work the same. Lastly, buy a box of original graham crackers. If needed, buy some roasting sticks so that the s’more makers will be able to roast his or her marshmallow. Plates or napkins may also be needed (but not required) to prepare the s’more. After all the supplies are purchased, the s’more will be ready to assemble, almost. After making it back to the campsite, a fire will need to be started. After the fire is made, the marshmallows are now ready to be roasted.

To roast a marshmallow, a person should remove just one out of the already opened bag. Next, he or she should place the marshmallow gently on the pointed end of the roasting stick. After that, the stick should be placed over the fire with the marshmallow on it. While holding onto the end of the stick that does not have the marshmallow on it, slowly but constantly rotate the stick so that each side of the marshmallow gets the same amount of heat from the fire. Cook the marshmallow to one’s preference. That could be anywhere from slightly browned to black and crispy.

If a person prefers their marshmallow completely burnt, a different step will be needed. Instead of holding the roasting above the fire, dip it completely into the fire, but do not let it touch the ground. Once the maker of this s’more can clearly see that the marshmallow is on fire, he or she should then remove it from the flames and carefully blow out the burning marshmallow. Once one of these roasting steps is completed, it becomes time to combine the other ingredients. Now that the marshmallow is roasted, it can be combined with the graham crackers and chocolate.

Balance the roasting stick on the side of a chair or table so that his or her hands are free to prepare the other two items. After that is done, remove one whole graham cracker from its package and break it in half so that each side is a square. Place both pieces on a plate, napkin or any surface and then grab a chocolate bar and remove it from its packaging. Break the chocolate bar up so that it fits on one piece of the square graham cracker and place it on the graham cracker. With one hand, pick up the roasting stick with the marshmallow still on it and place the marshmallow on the chocolate while it is still on the stick.

Pick up the graham cracker piece that doesn’t have anything on it and gently press it on the top of the marshmallow. While still pressing lightly, remove the stick by slowly pulling it from the marshmallow. It is normal for some of the marshmallow to be stuck on the stick. After the stick is out, pick up both graham crackers and squeeze them together but not hard enough to break them. Wait about a minute to eat this chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker snack so that the heated marshmallow will melt the milk chocolate, then the person who prepared this treat may enjoy the perfect s’more.

On rare occasions, Mother Nature decides to come out and ruin the fun, rain. Little drops start falling from the sky; softly at first, but then the soaking drops puts a damper on the camping trip. The fire goes out and the campers that were just so eager to prepare their delicious s’mores are now filled with disappointment. Even though they think the fun is gone, there are still ways to make s’mores without a fire. There is always the microwave option. All the people should pile in the camper and prepare the s’more the same as he or she normally would; but instead of roasting the marshmallow just place it on the chocolate and graham crackers.

Do not put the remaining square on top until after the plate is heated up. After the ingredients are prepared, place the whole plate in the microwave for no longer than fifteen seconds. The chocolate should be starting to melt and the marshmallow should be hot. Next, place the graham cracker with nothing on it on top of the filled graham cracker and gently squeeze the pieces together. Now, the microwaved s’more will be ready to eat. Although this way of making a s’more is not as fulfilling as making one over the fire, it is still a way to make one. If no microwave if present, a person may eat the s’more without cooking any of the ingredients.
