Ir Sources of Power in Bangladesh

Power is the ability of an actor to use its tangible and intangible resources in such a way so as to influence the outcome of any international event to its own satisfaction. Power can be derived from three sources which are natural; social and psychological and also synthetic. Although all the sources of power are necessary, as natural power is considered as the backstopping power, synthetic as the hardware power and social and psychological as the software power.

Thus social power is needed to support other two sources of power. There are many types social sources of power which can have variety of sources and they are given below: 1. Self-image 2. Leadership 3. Social cohesion and public support 4. Image of others As we are going to discuss this topic in the context of Bangladesh a brief history of Bangladesh and its natural and geographical positions are described so the sources of the social and psychological power can be easily be brought out.

Bangladesh was formed in the late 1971 with a war against Pakistan. Previously, it was a part of Pakistan and was known as East Pakistan. As the people of East Pakistan(Bangladesh) faced cultural differences between East Pakistan and west Pakistan ,they wanted to free themselves as a liberated people without any force pushing them down . Bengalis wanted their own state; they wanted their own government and wanted to be sovereign.

Then with the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman they started the war against military power of Pakistan. India also joined Bangladesh to fight against Pakistan. Finally the war was won. Since independence, the government has experienced periods of democratic and military rule. AS for geographical position of this country it is bordered by India on all sides except for a small border with Burma (Myanmar) to the far southeast and by the Bay of Bengal to the south.

As described above we the people of Bangladesh always try to be sovereign in every way that can be attained . That is why a after a series of changes in the political scenes and governing power over the country a stable democratic scene can be observed . The people in this country are not aggressive but are friendly towards their neighboring countries but when their freedom or other social and political sources are disturbeb an unity can be observed which can described in a simple sentence “They are proud and aware “.

Bangladesh is a developing country which is liberated some years back (in 1971),for this reason there are still some major problem within the country’s economy and political sector of the country. Bangladesh is a mixed economic country where they follow both social and capitalist system. Despite several economic reforms, however, the country is still far from enjoying an efficient market economy. Bangladesh’s economy remains largely agricultural, with a relatively small industrial sector facing some common problems such as the lower standard of living and of course unemployment
